There are a few too many space station stages for my liking, but at least a tour of the lantern planets changes things up a little. You’ll travel to Europe and enjoy stomping around miniaturised versions of Paris and London like Godzilla on holiday.
Best bet: switch to Superman and fry them all with laser vision from above whenever possible.Īs the game’s subtitle implies, the action takes place in locations other than the Dark Knight’s backyard. The QTE elements briefly introduced in Lego The Hobbit have been nixed too. It rarely makes sense and the only tactic you’ll need will be to break everything and look out for the telltale bouncing blocks to indicate a new build.Ĭombat seems even more basic than before and oddly unresponsive. Each stage is packed with breakable objects, some of which can then be rebuilt to form an unlikely construction to help you reach a new area. There’s not much to say about gameplay if you’ve ever played a Lego game. Nearby teammates can be quickly hopped into by facing them and pressing triangle, but if there’s more than one, you’ll often select everyone but them in a taunting game of piggy in the middle. It’s a big improvement, only slightly let down by a clunky radial menu and a slow process when wanting to swap to a different character in freeplay mode. Unlike the last game, you can swap into a different suit at any time instead of having to find a specific station. The Flash is admittedly amusing throughout, with his obsessive collecting and hoarding of pretty much anything in the cutscenes, never failing to extract a chuckle or two. Still, what do you expect when having to put up with Robin all day? Most characters seem to be exaggerated versions of themselves, but to be fair, as much as we adults like playing the Lego games, they are aimed at children, so we shouldn’t judge this too harshly. Batman seems even more grumpy than usual and comes off as a bit of a jerk on more than one occasion. For the most part, you’ll be playing as Batman and Robin, who once again have changeable suits to give them special powers like explosives, lasers, underwater diving, hacking and so on. With plenty of secrets and hidden collectables to discover, you’ll be switching things up quite often. The story sees the members of the Justice League taking on Brainiac who has started collecting cities again in miniature form. The Demolition Suit is its own barrel of fun as it can toss around bombs that deal damage to enemies and destroy environmental objects. For instance, wearing the Sonic Suit allows its wearer to break through glass barriers, revealing secrets and new shortcuts. These suits grant them a whole set of new abilities that can be used in both combat and Puzzle-solving as well as exploration. In Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, some of the main characters, including Batman, have the ability to change suits. You’ll even get to relive some classic DC moments, even a few good old Adam West Batman shenanigans. You’ll traverse across the galaxy as well as time and space in a bid to stop this galactic threat. Through some Lego superhero goofiness, heroes and villains join forces to deal with Brainiac who’s become quite a force to be reckoned with.
Brainiac has defeated the six of the most powerful Lantern Corps warriors and is hellbent on doing in the last one, Hal Jordan. This is also one of the core strengths of the game you’re almost always switching characters which keeps the pacing fresh and the humour high.Īs it says in the title, Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham goes.beyond Gotham. You’ll be able to step into the boots of familiar faces like Shazam, Superman, Martian Manhunter and Wonder Woman, as well as some more obscure characters like Blue Beetle and Booster Gold. Pretty much every fan favourite can be unlocked and played throughout the game’s 10+ hour campaign. Immediately, what stands out the most about Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham is its staggering roster of characters.
And that’s just the way we like our superhero romps. Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham continues this tradition well enough with little tampering to the Lego gaming formula in a story and setting that reaches a cosmic scale.
#Lego batman 3 characters says locked series
So, why not bring the two together? The Lego superhero game series does just that in the form of simple and quirky action games that are all charm. We can all agree that there are two things that are awesome: Legos and Superheroes.
